Thurlby Station was selected by Robert Wade in 1892 with his wife Elizabeth. Robert and Elizabeth came from a small village called Thurlby, Lincolnshire, England. They came to Australia as free settlers and farmers to start a new life. Here they reared their 8 children.

The family grew in numbers and spread throughout the South West of Outback QLD becoming graziers, bullock team drivers, fencers, dam sinkers and even publicans, just to mention a few.

Justin and Peta and their children are the fifth and sixth generation to live and work on Thurlby.

The hard work and dedication of Robert and Elizabeth to their family and their new found land, Australia, contributed to local history and to the generations they founded.

Thurlby has remained in the same family. It went to auction after the death of Elizabeth and Robert. This caused fierce bidding between two cousins, one being Thomas, Robert’s second son, who bought Thurlby for more than it was worth at the time. He built a new homestead in 1926. It stands today - occupied by Justin, Peta and family.
Many children have been raised at Thurlby and it is fondly remembered by family members from their 90’s to present day cousins and friends who still come to visit, play and enjoy this family property.
